On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to extend my appreciation to all our employees for delivering another year of excellent business performance.
At Morneau Shepell we believe improving the lives of employees is the most direct way to improve business performance – healthy, happy and engaged staff are present and productive. As organizations are faced with higher than ever healthcare costs, this translates into real value.
2019 was a pivotal year in helping our clients improve the lives of their employees. In addition to completing the integration of the LifeWorks acquisition, the Company acquired Mercer’s standalone, large-market health and defined benefit pension plan administration business in the United States. At the same time, the Company strengthened its portfolio of digital wellbeing solutions and its global talent base that together provide a differentiated advantage in the human resources sector.
Corporate social responsibility issues are becoming increasingly important in the world we live in today. Employee wellbeing is being increasingly recognized as a strategic social factor. As organizations adopt more progressive criteria and strategies concerning the wellbeing of their people, we are uniquely positioned to respond to this development. Morneau Shepell’s CSR report documents its strategies and commitments related to sustainability in areas that include data security and privacy, environmental performance and contributions to community and employee wellbeing.
This year, at our annual meeting on May 8, JackMintz will resign from the Board after 10 years as a Director. Dr. Mintz, a world-renowned economist, academic and management consultant, has made distinguished contributions to Canadian governments, businesses, non-profit organizations and educational institutions. On behalf of the Board, I am honored to thank Jack for his contributions to Morneau Shepell and we all wish him well on his future endeavors.
At the time of writing, governments and businesses around the world are taking unprecedented action in response to COVID-19 in an effort to contain the spread of the virus. Daily lives and routines of people across the globe have been impacted to a degree that is almost unparalleled. Morneau Shepell is playing a leadership role in both how we are responding to ensuring our own workforce is well looked after, as well as helping clients around the globe help their employees.
In closing, the Board is confident in the Company’s leadership and the capabilities of its employees in taking the company forward successfully.
On behalf of the Board, I’d like to thank our CEO, his dedicated team of employees, and shareholders, clients and partners for their contributions to the Company’s success last year.
Gillian (Jill) Denham
Chair of the Board
